Tech Cafe - Lakota Wintercounts and Haiku Deck

Winter counts are histories or calendars in which events are recorded by pictures, with one picture for each year.   The Lakota winter count online exhibit highlights ten Lakota winter counts in the collections of the National Anthropological Archives, a part of the National Museum of Natural History, and the National Museum of the American Indian.  This site can be used by all grade levels, across all subject areas, with rich visuals and sound supports multiple learning styles.

The Teachers' Guide was created to help you incorporate Lakota winter counts into your curriculum. It includes relevant background information, visual material, topic suggestions, sample lesson plans and resource lists, along with instructions on navigating the Lakota winter count online exhibit.
